PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Upholds the core values of FMCNA's customer service vision and philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA compliance program, including compliance with all regulatory requirements and FMS policies.
Acts as part of the dialysis healthcare team to provide safe and effective dialysis treatment to patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with FMCNA policy procedures and training and in accordance with regulations established by the company's state and federal agencies. Responsible for the installation and operation of the dialysis machine. Help maintain a safe and clean work environment. Supports commitment to FMCNA's Quality Improvement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including those related to patient satisfaction, and actively participates in process improvement activities that increase the likelihood that patients will achieve the goals of FMC's Quality Improvement Program (QEP).
DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Responsible for promoting the FMS culture through the values and standards of customer service.
Responsible for providing excellent customer service to all external and internal customers.
Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
Takes initiative and actions to respond to solutions in a timely manner and follows up on customer service issues with all customers.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
PATIENT CARE:
Assist other members of healthcare in providing detailed patient education on appropriateness measures where applicable: Online Competency Monitor (OLC), Urea Competency Monitor (UKM) and disease process/approach.
Wait for the named patients and ask about their well-being since their last treatment. Report any complaints or observations to the supervising nurse.
Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings to the supervising nurse.
Determine vital signs and weight needed before and after treatment. Report unusual findings to the supervising nurse.
Perform a vascular access assessment prior to treatment and report any unusual findings to the supervising nurse.
Intubate the vascular access and report any intubation difficulties or unusual findings to the supervising nurse.
Administer heparin as directed or allowed by state law.
Begin hemodialysis therapy as prescribed, including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow rate (QD).
Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as directed by physician or as directed.
Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to the supervising nurse.
Check vital signs before reinfusion. performs all relevant functions necessary for the completion of the treatment - document.
Discontinue dialysis therapy in accordance with established procedures.
Assess the patient before stopping venous access: standing and sitting blood pressure.
Ensure hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
Evaluate the patient before discharge and report any unusual findings to the supervising nurse.
Perform and record weight assessment and vital signs before and after hemodialysis with initial identification.
Responsible for the calculation and entry of the individual patient's dialysis machine programming for the ultrafiltration (UF) target. treatment time; Sodium (Na) modeling; and UF modeling as specified.
Responsible for ensuring activation of appropriate safety alarms, including narrow venous limits(NVL) 160.
Record accurate and timely information on vital signs and treatment parameters on the Dialysis Treatment Sheet with Initial Identification.
Responsible for accurately documenting information related to patient treatment, including completion of the dialysis treatment form and, if applicable, progress notes.
Report any important information and/or changes in the patient's condition directly to the head nurse.
Observe patients and machine safety controls in accordance with facility policy. Report any changes or unusual findings to the supervising nurse.

Perform all necessary dialyzer alarm tests, including pressure maintenance (PHT).
Start the Solution Delivery System (SDS).
Ensure that all spilled blood is cleaned up immediately with an appropriate disinfectant in accordance with facility policy.
Prepare, organize and effectively use waste prevention supplies and equipment.
SECRETARY AND ADMINISTRATOR:
Complete and document ongoing participation in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Accurately and timely input all treatment data into the assigned clinical application.
Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nurse signatures are documented, and ensure omissions are completed or corrected where necessary.
Prepare the initial patient file for admission and document the proper location of the file.
Prepare laboratory requests for prescription samples or statistical laboratory samples depending on the destination of the laboratory.
Collect label, prepare, and properly store laboratory samples in accordance with required laboratory specifications.
Ensure collection of laboratory samples by the appropriate laboratory dispatcher.

The position provides direct patient care including routine patient lifting and moving and ambulation assistance. Team assistants and/or colleagues can provide assistance. This position requires frequent prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend down. Occasionally, the employee may be required to push and/or pull equipment using up to 15 pounds of force. The employee may be required to frequently lift and lower solutions up to 30 pounds. and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. up to 5 feet. There is a help program for two people and material support for more difficult subjects.
